KELLYTED D.Ted D. Kelly, age 59, of Westview, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024, after a brief illness. He was the father of twin boys, Ryan and Brian Kelly of Pittsburgh; brother to Timothy L., Sean M. (Mary), Patrick K., Karen A., Colleen A., and the late Kathleen Novakovic (Bob); a grandfather and a beloved uncle to many. Ted, the youngest of seven children, was born on April 27, 1964, to the late Dr. William J. Kelly and Jean Del Kelly in Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School where he was a linebacker on the football team. After high school Ted graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. He was a chef with a skill and love for cooking that led to a long career in the culinary arts. Ted was always in the kitchen, creating delicious food from scratch, making it look so easy. He was an avid fisherman who loved being on the water with his older brother and best friend, Patrick Kelly. Ted developed the skill of making lures by hand and would make lures for members who repeatedly urged him to start his own business doing so. He loved to see or hear of someone catching a big fish on a lure that he made for them. May he know God's presence and love. Visitation will be private. LIESGEORGEGeorge Lies passed away at his home in Morgantown on April 27, 2024, finishing his final chapter. He was born in Pittsburgh in the spring of 1946 and grew up in the city's Hill District, going on to attend Fifth Avenue High School where he graduated as valedictorian of his class, then the University of Pittsburgh and later the WVU School of Journalism. A lifelong fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, particularly the Pirates, he found an early hero in Roberto Clemente who he would watch play at Forbes Field. As a kid, he sold newspapers on Pittsburgh's 5th Ave, and he later became a journalist working at the Greensburg Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Forum, the Pittsburgh Press, Roll Call, and The Brazilian Herald in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. George served on the staff at WVU for 38 years, first in the Coal Mining Extension Service, and later in the Office of International Programs. He had a lifelong love of Latin America and was instrumental in establishing Morgantown's Sister Cities relationships with Guanajuato, Mexico and Xuzhou, China, serving as the chair of the Sister Cities Commission. He helped usher hundreds of students through study abroad programs and even more international students through WVU. A skilled and passionate writer, George was actively involved in many local literary communities which he helped build and sustain. He ran the Morgantown Writers Group for 30 years, fostering countless writing careers through his generous encouragement and constructive criticism. For the better part of two decades he ran the Goldenrod Writer's Conference which he founded, bringing together writers across the state of West Virginia and beyond, and he served as the President of West Virginia Writers Inc. from 1999-2001 and again in 2003. He also won numerous awards and recognitions for his own work. George is preceded in death by his mother Marie Lies and cousin John Malicky and survived by his wife Lucia, his daughter Erica and son-in-law Eric, his brothers Michael and Leonard and sisters-in-law Cathy and Filomena, his nieces and nephews Francesca, Lenny, Michaela, Gian Carlo, Nicholas, and Francesco, and his aunt Rose LoPinto. MALCOLMDARLENE "PAT" (ECKENRODE) Darlene "Pat" (Eckenrode) Malcolm, age 91, of Crafton, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Robert "Bob" Malcolm. Loving mother of Kim hom*ol, Karen Gordon, Tracey (Michael) Vogel, and Bob (Marla) Malcolm. She will be dearly missed by her 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Gloria Frazier, Bruce (Lee) Eckenrode; and sister-in-law, Nancy Eckenrode, wife of her late brother, Jerry. She will be dearly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched. Pat was an instructor at Community College of Allegheny County teaching medical assistants prior to taking a position at PMI (Physical Measurements Incorporated) until her retirement. She was an avid card player and reader, who also enjoyed swimming, dancing, bowling, and golfing well into her later years. CAPOFRANK W.With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved, Frank W. Capo, born Francis Dominic William Capo, age 85, of Carnegie, on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Frank embodied traditional Catholic Italian values and was a dedicated family man with incredible work ethic, which he passed on to each of us. He served his country as a reservist in the United States Air Force in the early 1960s and was honorably discharged as he had young children at home to care for. He was a member of the Bridgeville Kiwanis Club and was a well-known member of the community. As a proud business owner since 1978, Suburban Dry Cleaners served as his life's work, a testament to his dedication for over four decades. Day in and day out, he tirelessly tended to his customers, while providing for his cherished family. Even his dedicated employees considered him their family which speaks volumes to his character and the man he was. As the patriarch of our family, Frank cherished each role he played in our lives. He welcomed everyone with open arms, treating them with respect and unparalleled kindness. To say he had a heart of gold is an understatement; he was simply the best. His love and generosity knew no bounds and were the pillars that held our family together. He went out of his way to make sure not only his children, but his grandchildren and great grandchildren felt loved and supported, even travelling great distances to attend our games, performances, spelling bees, tennis, and wrestling matches. He seldom missed any events, whether it be a graduation, a birthday party, a Baptism, Holy Communion, or Confirmation, he was there. While leading by example, he navigated life's challenges, and there were many, with grace, resilience, and faith in God. He was well respected and very much loved by everyone he encountered. He was truly an inspiration to everyone, myself included. His love for his family surpassed everything else, including his passion for attending antique car shows, where he proudly displayed his collection of often won trophies and ribbons, but his favorite times were those spent in the company of his family. Frank was a humble, hardworking, kind and selfless provider and his character is unmatched. His love touched each of our lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those of us he leaves behind. Each of his children would quickly agree he was the greatest man they've ever known, a hero and a blessing and they are honored to have called him Dad. Though he is no longer with us in sight, his spirit will forever illuminate our hearts and serve as a guiding light. HAZENTHOMAS ERIC (RICK)Of Gibsonia, PA, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 3, 1961, in Ellwood City, PA, he was the son of Thomas F. Hazen and the late Rita Ippolito Hazen. He attended St. Agatha School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1979. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1983. In 1984, he married Amy Ruhe, also of Ellwood City. Rick joined GE Aerospace on their Manufacturing Management Program and progressed through manufacturing, program management and marketing leadership roles at GE and Lockheed Martin. In 2000, he left Lockheed Martin and joined SMA, a consulting firm that helps defense contractors win commercial and defense programs worldwide. He retired as the Senior Vice President of Competition Management. Rick enjoyed traveling the world, riding and restoring motorcycles, fishing, spending time in the Allegheny Mountains with his friend, Frank, and keeping aquariums. He is survived by his wife Amy, his two sons, David William (Marissa) of Cranberry Township and Eric Thomas (Nika) of Sarver PA and his granddaughter Rory, his father, Thomas F. DePRAMARY E. (CAGLEY)Age 91, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Johnstown, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Beloved wife of 63 years to Elmer J. "When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple... and play bridge." KARAPANDIROSE MARIE (DOYLE)Our beloved mother, Rose Marie (Doyle) Karapandi, better known as mum or gram, is rejoicing with Jesus as she sadly left us for her eternal HOME. She took her final breath at 91, Saturday, April 27, 2024, surrounded by family. She's finally reunited with her husband Steve and daughter Karen and others who greeted her. Rose graduated from St. Mary's High School where she received the honor of May Queen. She met Steve and married in 1950. She helped him build our home in Hampton Twp. She loved her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was being with her FAMILY! Among her many loves were the ocean, Marblehead Ohio, Cedar Point, horse racing and TV. She enjoyed helping Steve organize theatre calls for I.A.T.S.E Local 3. One of her favorite things to do was sit in her chair with the front door open watching the View or The Bachelor. Her favorite foods were breaded pork chops, spaghetti with meat sauce, meatloaf, toast and DOUGHNUTS! Everyone said she made the best toast. She loved sending cards to everyone she knew. If you were sick, you could count on a card. Her Christmas and birthday cards were always the first to be received. Rose would be the first to do anything for anyone (family or stranger) before herself. She volunteered every Christmas for the Optimist- Goodfellow Organization, where she distributed toys to needy children. She was the most selfless mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She was the purest, most genuine person to walk the earth. Anyone who met her loved her. We have become who we are because of her devoted love. One of the greatest things she taught us was to love. She was a one-of-a-kind special person. Her soul was everything we aspire to be. She will be missed more than words can say, but to see her all we need to do is look UP! She has left behind many. RAUTERKUSAUDREY McELLIGOTTAudrey, age 89, passed peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, April 28, 2024, while under the long-term care of LSL Passavant Community. She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life of 64 years, Leo; her parents, Bill and Dorothy McElligott; and her brothers, Billy and Jerry McElligott. She is survived by her sister, Pat (Roy Kaiser); and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Her pride, joy and absolute adoration as their Nana were her 15 grandchildren and great-grandson. Audrey was a woman of deep faith, endless positivity and bountiful love. FEHLROBERT "BOB" LOUISRobert "Bob" Louis Fehl, 86, of Carver, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Born March 10, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Mary Agnes (Weber) and Frederick Fehl, Bob was a 1956 graduate of Langley High School. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Downey) Fehl of Carver, MA and the extensive Downey family; daughters Lisa J. Fehl of South Portland, ME and Joyce D. Fehl of Bath, ME, and granddaughter Annika R. Schmitt of Portland, ME; his brother Alfred (Jane) Fehl of Erie, PA and sister Lorraine (d. Herb) Lutton of No. Olmsted, OH; and many nieces and nephews. Bob served four years in the U.S. Air Force at Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod, where he met his first wife Jean Marie (Gyllenberg, deceased 2004, mother of Lisa and Joyce), and graduated from East Coast Aero Technical School at Hanscom Field, Lexington, MA in 1963. He began his career as an aircraft mechanic with Pan Am in New York, and retired after working 30 years with Trans World Airlines at Logan Airport in Boston. Bob was a lifetime fan of Pittsburgh and Boston sports teams; loved fishing and hunting; attending stock car races, and became an avid golfer in his 40s -- enjoying post-retirement work as a groundskeeper at Pine Oaks Golf Course in South Easton, MA, and loved the 10 years he drove kids to school and sporting events for Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School. He kept a large and meticulous vegetable garden; enjoyed travel throughout the country and internationally; and special seasonal memories in Naples, FL and Newfound Lake in Hebron, NH with Phyllis and the Downey family. He was an active volunteer at the former Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Brockton, MA and the former St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Whitman, MA, where he helped keep the building and grounds. If you knew Bob, you know he could repair or build anything; helped everyone; and appreciated the simple joy of cooking and sharing a fresh, slow meal with family and friends any day. DAYENPATRICIA L.Age 84, of Zelienople, formerly of Richland Twp., passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, while under the care of the Passavant Retirement Community. Born December 28, 1939, in Weirton, WV, she was the daughter of the late Glen W. and Sarah (Beabout) Hopkins. Patricia was a former member of the Bakerstown United Methodist Church in Gibsonia. She loved the outdoors, often spending her time working in her yard or playing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending car cruises with her husband. Above all, Patricia was a joyous person. She always smiled and was pleasant to be around. Patricia leaves behind to cherish her memory her two children, Sherry Santmyer (Paul) of Harmony and Jay Dayen (Cindy) of Prospect; her six grandchildren, Ashley (Adam), Alison (Alex), Hunter, Christina (Garrick), Hayley (Zane), and Nicholas; her five great-grandchildren, Landon, Ashwyn, Eleanor, Rylie, and Evelyn; her brother, John Hopkins (Kay) of Florida; and her sister-in-law, Pam Hopkins of Georgia. DOBKIN EDWARD JOELEdward Joel Dobkin of Pittsburgh, PA, died April 24, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old. She was married to her late husband, Dr. Howard Gendell, and was previously married to Fred Harris, father of her beloved children, Beth Lauren Gibson, Alexandra Mary Harris, and Maximilian John Harris. He most loved spending the summers at their home on Canadohta lake surrounded by family. His daughter-in-law Katie captured the essence of Clay when she wrote: "Puppup was so kind, caring, and loving to his family and all those around him. He always had time for the little kids and big kids alike. He enjoyed creating special memories for the grandkids, time at the lake, making pancakes for breakfast, special Puppup orange or root beer floats, building the perfect campfire, boat rides, special one on one trips to giant eagle, carving the holiday meat just perfectly, sharing cake and ice cream whenever possible... But most of all, I think enjoyed having his family around him and being together whenever possible. We have been blessed by him in so many ways." He was the adored brother to Debbie Scarpari (Tony) and Diana Llewellyn (Melvin), and uncle to nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind numerous family members that include aunts, uncles and cousins. Raymond was a proud veteran of the Army who served in Iraq. He was also a charismatic car salesman. He never missed an opportunity to brighten someone's day. He was known for his admirable work ethic and infectious personality. He had the gift of making everyone around him smile and laugh, winning the hearts of many. Christine loved keeping up to date on all of the Real Housewives shows, Law & Order, and especially WWE wrestling. She loved going out to the movies. She looked forward all year long to having her Christmas cheeseball, and loved celebrating her birthday—she couldn't wait for it to come around and always counted down the days. She and Ike frequented LongHorn Steakhouse, as Christine just loved her steak. They enjoyed watching wrestling together—Christine always rooting for the good guy, and Ike (just to tease her) rooting for the heel. She was also highly addicted to her QVC and was their self-proclaimed best customer in Mt. Lebanon. Christine enjoyed being at home, loved her family, and loved the people she worked with. Her absence leaves a hole in the hearts of her husband, siblings and other family and friends. Christine will be greatly missed by all who knew her. SPAINJOSEPH CHARLES "BUBBA, JO JO" Age 79, of Brookline, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Joe was the father of Jeff (Susan) Spain; grandfather "Bubba" of Alexandra (Christopher) Sunday, and Taylor (Zach) Gehl; great-grandfather "Big Bubba" of Cole and Greyson Sunday; brother of Jeffrey P. (Sharon) Spain; uncle of Jesse (Kim) Spain, and Shannon Spain; and longtime best friend of Danny (Diane) Zilch. He is also survived by his former wife Gerda Spain, numerous cousins, and other loving friends and family. After graduating from South Hills High School in 1962, Joe joined the U.S. Army. He bravely and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a helicopter door gunner of the 101st Airborne Division, where he earned a number of commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, and Air Medal. After coming home from Vietnam, while still in the service, Joe traveled to the state of Washington to become a firefighter. Back home he coached the Brookline Wings, a semipro football team, before settling into life as an owner/operator in the trucking business. Joe had a passion for anything with a motor—from tractor-trailers, to boats, race cars, motorcycles, airplanes. He was known to "buy high, sell low." He was also known for buying a horse saddle, but had no horse. He did have dogs though, and loved them, especially Johnson, his Jack Russell Terrier. For the second half of his life, Joe lived in Brevard County, Florida, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing poker and euchre. Joe spent the last five years of his life back home in Pittsburgh, close to his family. Jim graduated with an accounting degree from Duquesne University, and immediately embarked on a successful and satisfying career that included serving as the Vice President of Marshall Fields, the President and CEO of Waterford Crystal, USA, and a business strategist for multiple companies as varied as Gibson Guitars and Wendell-August Forge. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Waterford, Ireland, the birthplace of his paternal grandparents. While Jim's skills and business acumen led to exceptional achievement, he placed special importance on encouraging his co-workers with care, wit, patience, and support. Jim had a deep intellectual curiosity. He was a prolific reader, a deeply knowledgeable lover of acoustic music, an expert on every kind of car, and a back-road traveler through all of the United States. He admired virtuosity, from a hand-cut vase to a well-played pedal steel. Above all, Jim was a deeply generous, open, and kind person. He was a man of faith and of compassion. Listening to others with respect and attentiveness and always offering help was his habit and his great gift to all who crossed his path. URBENEDWARD A. Age 76, passed away on April 24, 2024 in Virginia after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. Ed was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late Paul and Margaret (Lucas) Urben. He grew up in Whitehall, graduated Baldwin High School (1965), and The College of Steubenville (1969), where he met his future wife, Tharba Link. Ed began his career in the U.S. Army, first in the Corps of Engineers and later as an Adjutant General Corps officer. His Army career included multiple tours in Hawaii, a master's degree in hotel and restaurant management at Purdue University, and several assignments in the National Capital Region. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1991 after 21 years of service. After retiring from the Army, Ed served as the general manager of the Maryland Club in Baltimore, MD, Hackensack Golf Club in Oradell, NJ, and the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington and Fairfax, VA. Ed loved his family, his dog Darcy, golf, and all things Pittsburgh—from Arnold Palmer to Mister Rogers, the Pirates, Steelers, and Clark Bars! Ed had a zest for life and learning new things. He enjoyed photography, music, history, and Jeopardy. Ed had a kind and sensitive heart and will be deeply missed by those who loved him. Although Benjamin preceded his mother in death, he was a bright light in the lives of all he knew, and the pride and joy of his parents and family. Kim was blessed once again in 1988 when she welcomed the arrival of Amy Elizabeth, a sweet baby girl who completed her family. Amy's devotion and dedication to her mother's care was admired by many. Kim remarked many times, "Every mother should have a daughter who is a nurse." Amy and her husband, David, blessed Kim in 2018 and again in 2022, with the arrival of Blake Benjamin Walls and Makenzie Marie Walls. Kim's role as their "Kiki" was the joy of her life. Kim's relationship with her sister, Carol, her most treasured confidante, and her brother-in-law, Peter, defined the meaning of sisterhood and family values. Their son, Jonathan, was an inspiration to Kim, and led her to a passion of championing for those with special needs. Carol and Peter's daughter, Dana, followed in her aunt and mother's footsteps in teaching, and was described by Kim as a "second daughter." Kim's role of godmother to her sister's children went above and beyond. She was also looking forward to becoming a great aunt to baby Greer. Never a hair out of place, Kim was the epitome of class, style, and grace. Kim and her husband, Gary, met in high school and remained friends for their entire lives. Upon beginning a relationship, Kim gained a second family she adored, complete with three "bonus" children and four grandchildren. Kim and Gary enjoyed their many adventures together, including many trips to her favorite spot, Hilton Head Island, in the prime of their lives. In addition, many times were spent with dear and loving friends at happy hours, dinners, and on vacations. Kim earned a Master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh after graduating from Slippery Rock University. A passionate and devoted schoolteacher, her love of learning and teaching reached far outside of the classroom. Described by her former students as warmhearted, thoughtful, and funny, Kim maintained relationships with those she taught over her years of teaching. Her dedication to education led her to teach at St. Canice, St. Albert the Great, and St. Alexis School until her retirement. PARKSANG C.Sang C. Park peacefully passed away on April 19, 2024, at age 85, in Bellevue, WA, where he moved in 2023 to be nearer to his family. He was born in S. Korea and graduated from the Catholic University of Korea College of Medicine. He moved to the US in 1964. Dr. Park trained at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NY for pediatrics and completed a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He passionately served at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for 37 years and retired as Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Park published nearly 100 articles and book chapters. He also had patents on medical devices used for congenital heart conditions. He loved his patients, colleagues, and mentoring. He established an endowed fund to help foster pediatric cardiology fellows' research at the hospital. Dr. Park's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted member of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church for over 36 years and was ordained an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). He chaired the Missions Committee and the International Partnerships Committee, pivotally guiding and designing several construction projects. His commitment to global outreach was recently honored by the dedication of Dr. Sang C. Park Children's Place for orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi. He also participated in medical missions in Guatemala and Mexico City. Although Dr. Park preferred humility, he was fiercely proud of supporting the local Korean community. He was the co-chair of the Korean Heritage Room Committee, which created an inspiring classroom in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh showcasing the history, artistry, and technology of S. Korea. A memorial service will be held at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church on August 10, 2024, at 3 pm. He is survived by his wife, Sun; his daughter, Audrey (Brian); his grandson, Matthew; and sisters, Heungbok Park and Jung Ja Yoon. Bob cherished his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities.He served as a police officer in Ross Township and Phoenix, Arizona before becoming a Detective, Lieutenant, then Captain-in-Charge of Homicide for the Allegheny County District Attorney's office. He served as an elected Magisterial District Judge for Ross and West View and later accepted a position as the Commander of the Homicide Unit of the Allegheny County Police Department.Bob was a Security Director for Bell Atlantic for nine years and was the owner of Robert E. Meinert and Associates, a private investigative firm. He went on to continue private investigations in locating missing children, runaways and families for Children, Youth and Family Services departments for several counties in Western PA.Bob also served as a Township Commissioner, Civil Service Commissioner for Ross Township and a Zoning Hearing board member in Neville Township.Bob was very active in St. Teresa of Avila and St. Ferdinand as a member and served as a Minister of the Eucharist for over 50 years.Bob was very involved in charity fundraising, including PH CURE, Kops for Kids and National Ovarian Cancer Charity. He was a life member and Past President of the Western PA Chiefs of Police Association, proud member of BSA, past Executive Board Member and life member of the PA Chiefs of Police Association, Co-founder of the PA Association of Licensed Investigators (PALI), lifetime Chairman Emeritus and active member of Intellenet, an international investigative organization and the Vidocq Society, a volunteer investigative group helping those without means to assist in unsolved homicides.Bob received a bachelor's degree from California University of PA and taught criminal justice classes at several institutions.Bob was inducted into the North Catholic High School Hall of Fame. He served honorably in the U.S Army and attained the rank of Sergeant E-5 in his two years of active duty while serving in Germany and E-6 in two years of inactive duty. HANco*ckLEON H.Leon H. Hanco*ck, 72, of Pittsburgh, PA, transitioned peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2024. Leon was born in Pittsburgh on September 13, 1951 and was the son of the late Leon and Dorothy Hanco*ck. After high school, Leon studied heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and retired from a packaging corporation in which he worked throughout his entire career. Leon loved spending his free time at the local swimming pool and reading fiction novels. He also loved watching Western movies and shows. Leon loved buying hats of all sports teams and matching the colors of his clothes to his hats. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and especially his daughter, Maria Hanco*ck. Leon was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Dorothy Hanco*ck; sister, Claire Hanco*ck Schwartz; and niece, JoElla Schrader. Rosemary, a.k.a "Brownie", originally of Uniontown, began her nursing career through a Navy cadet program at the former St. Joseph's Hospital on the South Side. She retired from Jefferson Hospital at age 65, but with still a lot of zest left in her, she took a job at Fair Oaks Senior Living in Beechview and worked there until she was 89. Rosemary was known for her sweetness, like all of the local bakeries she frequented. She was always up for a card game, picnic, or party with family and friends. Most of all, she loved her Saturday Service, Sunday sauce, and Pittsburgh sports --- any time of the week. Rosemary will be sadly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. PEELEJAMES "JIM" EDMUNDOf Point Breeze, died on Monday, April 22, 2024, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on April 18, 1944. He battled MS for over 20 years, continuously innovating solutions to maintain his independence, which he did maintain until just shy of 80 years of age. Jim was a master craftsman with superb woodworking skills. He could fix almost anything and never seemed to have parts leftover when he took something apart and put it back together. He was a master at catching crabs with just a hand net. He loved to hike, run, and bike. He once rode a rented 10 speed bike from Paris to Pamplona to Bordeaux crossing the Pyrenees mountains twice with all of his gear on his bike. Later, with the help of the Frick Park Lawn Bowling Association, he continued to bowl in his wheelchair for years. Jim was an engineer with a degree from the University of Florida. When his MS forced him to leave the workplace, the health care non-profit Global Links provided him an opportunity to volunteer at their Pittsburgh facility. He volunteered there for many years, repairing medical equipment that then got used to help Global Links' partners. It was so meaningful for Jim to have this opportunity to apply his talent for fixing stuff toward a humanitarian purpose. Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela Peele. MIHM SUSAN STRYKERSusan Stryker Mihm died unexpectedly of natural causes in her home on Thursday, April 18, 2024. Susan, known to all as "Susie", was adored and adorable. She delighted her children and grandchildren with her inquisitive mind and fun-loving spirit. Susie remained curious and engaged with life until the very end. Susan Holmes Stryker was born on November 9, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA to Walter Hayes Stryker and Kathryn Ten Cate Stryker. True to her nature, Susie had a happy and carefree childhood. After graduating from Aspinwall High School, Susie attended Margaret Morrison Carnegie College, the Women's college of Carnegie Tech, now Carnegie Mellon University. There she majored in Textiles and Design and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Most importantly, at Carnegie Tech, Susie met John McSorley Mihm and thus began a lifelong love and a successful and happy marriage that lasted over 60 years. After college, Susie went to work for The Joseph Horne Company in the Fashion Department. Although her career was short lived, she remained forever interested in clothes and fashion and loved nothing more than to shop with her granddaughters. In 1991, Susie and John purchased a place in Boca Grande, Florida where they spent almost 30 winters playing golf, socializing with friends, and enjoying the beauty and nature of Gasparilla Island. Although she came to sports late in life, Susie was a sports enthusiast. She started with tennis and eagerly transitioned to golf, a game she played with her friends and family until late in her life. Another great sports passion was football. Susie closely followed the Pittsburgh Steelers and rarely missed a game. She loved rehashing Steeler games with her sons and grandchildren. Susie was an avid and discerning reader and a lifelong learner. She religiously read The New Yorker, and The New York Times and always had a new book. She regularly visited her library in Pittsburgh, Boca Grande, and Bedford, NY. She instilled a love of poetry and literature in her children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband John (2020), Susie is survived by her three children, Maureen Mihm McManus (Patrick) of Bedford Hills, NY, Frank Mihm (Katie) and Andrew Mihm (Holly) of Pittsburgh, PA; her grandchildren, Kathryn McManus, Louise McManus, Claudia Mihm, Maggie Mihm, Henry Mihm, and Annie Mihm. Susie had a deeply personal and warm relationship with every member of her family. Her enthusiasm, interest and engagement with her family and life will be forever missed. KRULJACJOHN S.Age 95, formerly of Lawrenceville and Ross Township, passed away surrounded by his loving family on April 21, 2024. He was the son of the late John and Mary Kruljac. John is survived by Mary Ann, his wife of 70 years; son Steve (Judy) Kruljac; grandchildren, Jason (Amanda) Kruljac, Justin Kruljac, Jaclyn (Chris) Clackson; great-grandchildren, Chase, Natalie, Rylee and Brayden. He was preceded in death by son Michael (Dr. Catherine Quas) Kruljac. John was born and raised in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh where he attended Washington Vocational High School. He went on the serve in the U.S. Army Special Services during the Korean War, where he played the accordion in USO shows throughout Japan and Okinawa. After his time in the service, John worked in jewelry manufacturing as a goldsmith and diamond setter for over 40 years. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Musicians' Union, performing at supper clubs and local events in the Pittsburgh area. He also performed with his own orchestra, The Troubadours. John worked at the Civic Arena and PPG Paints Arena for 59 years. He started as an usher when the arena first opened in 1961 and worked the majority of years as a ticket seller until he retired in 2020. All services will be private.
